The Penguin

This is a name that I gave to the kid when I first saw him run at the age of 3. He always kept his hands at his side (like the penguin would keep its wings) and ran with his head popped ahead of his body. He never managed to get any pace but he sure looked good. With his curly hair and long lashes he managed to never get punished in school even when he didn't manage to do his homework. Each morning till the age of 7 he woke up as though he was offering his prayers in front of God! He hated Math. What he hated more than Math was me teaching it to him!

Today he is tall and runs nothing like a penguin. He probably can crush me with one punch if he wanted to. Sleeps shorter hours than I ever have. Still hates Math but is still interested in getting a degree in commerce and management. He still manages to keep out of trouble in school with his eyes and changing hairstyles. Even at this age he has the maturity that I don't have despite being older to him by a decade.

But he is still that eye-batting-sweet-looking Penguin of mine! Love ya!

Long time no blog

Just this morning I realized that I need to express myself either in writing or orally. But the minutes on my cell seem to be rapidly vanishing so I thought writing sounds fine!!
So I shall start out by wishing everyone "A very happy new year". Yeah quite late I know but didn't you read the title of this blog? I have just gotten out of the "blog hibernation mode" and hope that the cold and snow does not force me to go back into the mode again. So where was I? Oh ya... the new year wishes.... hope you guys have a great year ahead (and wish you all the other pleasant messages you might have got in the new year cards). Talking about new year, can we miss out the 'thought' of resolutions? Well I call it a thought coz that is what it is right? I mean how many of you have really counted your calories starting this Jan 1st or really stuck to that crazy schedule you thought would make your life amazingly fantastic? I tried not to make any resolutions myself those but then thought that the thought of it would help.

So here are my thoughtful resolutions:
1. Keep in touch with friends (a little more)
2. Stop worrying about problems that may never occur (atleast a little less)
3. Improve your confidence (start somewhere!)
4. Develop a new skill (how about Tai-Chi?)
5. Move to a warmer place (India sounds good)
6. Reduce your thoughts on the net and increase time in the real life (Did I create another blog account?)

Well the list does not stop there but those were a few on the top of my mind. Have I managed to implement any of these? I am processing that one as yet. So hope to have a better year ahead.
Ending on that note. Have a great day!

Guilt

I wish this one word or should I say feeling never existed coz each time I look into my vault of guilt all I am left with is hollowness. The reason for guilt are numerous. Ranging from a past relationship to an overeating binge to not being upto the mark at workplace. The ways to get over this is by having another relationship, eating to forget the last binge (trying a healthier version) or taking a shopping hike to feel better about the imminent firing coming in from the boss. Well it is a vicious cycle I am trying to beat but it beats me at my game fair and square :)
Where is my chocolate icecream?!

Apple delight

Ever tried eating an apple plucked right out of the tree with your own hands? Well believe me it is quite an experience. A few days back my parents, brother, a couple of his friends and I visited a place rightly called 'Apple farms'. The trip started with an introduction given by the owner of the farm to the different types of apples available on the farm, location of each variety and the what each variety could be used for. This was followed by a ride on a tractor to the farms.

Beautiful, fresh apples hung from the tree in bunches beckoning us to have a bite of each luscious looking fruit. We tasted a few apples, picked and chose a few more. Went to several different types of the apple farms and by the end of it had close to 5 lbs of different varieties like golden delicious, Granny Smith and McIntosh.

The short trek around the gardens got us hungry and what better option than freshly baked apple pie! The verdict : The day was literally 'fruitful'!

Print and voila!

It has been over a year and half since I got any pictures printed (the last prints are a part of my wedding album) until yesterday. The reason: I discovered the HP photo printer lying around my house which was gifted to me a year back.
Last afternoon, out of boredom I reached out to one of the overhead storages and got hold of the photo printer box still in its birthday attire. I had never seen a home version of these so was expecting something similar to a regular home printer used to print docs. But it looks more like a toaster, a really sophisticated version of it!
Once I got it hooked up there was no holding back. The best feature is that you can directly plug in the memory card of the camera into the slots provided on the back of the printer. So you do not require any extraneuos wires running back and forth from your computer (though there is a provision for that too). The scroll functions are out of the world allowing one to browse, view and select pictures on the memory card.
I printed out a few pictures and put them into the empty frames lying around the house. I must say there is no replacing the physical versions of certain things esp pictures!

She lay awake, staring at the ceiling. It was about 2 in the morning. She tried to go back to sleep. But myriad of thoughts kept running through her mind. She tried to quieten the demons but they just seemed to multiply. She wanted to talk to someone but who would be awake at this unearthly hour? Then between all this chaos she was transported to a happy place in time, a place where the sun seemed to shine bright. Suddenly her mind seemed to be at peace and the demons were gone.
She lay awake again. But this time she had to get up, get ready and go to work.
