Being filmi

I was watching a movie earlier today (Apna Sapna Money Money... an ok watch) and as usual there was a little girl who had a hole in the heart and so needed to go under the knife. Just then it struck me that an ailing hero / heroine / extra (whoever and wherever) has been one of the most favoured topics of film-makers since the beginning of Bollywood.
Top of my mind, here are few of the ailments that I remember.
There are a lots of variants of the C word, and by that I mean Cancer. The ever-green (or should I say red?) one I guess is blood cancer. While the most memorable ailing person on-screen got to be Rajesh Khanna with the lymphosarcoma of the intestine was it?? I remembering crying gallons when the tape started with "Babumoshai....".
The heart diseases are eternal. Each time I watch a movie with someone with a heart disease I see a different end to how the person has been cured. (A misconception of mine, implanted in my head by movies of earlier times, that the heart disease could be cured by stitching the hole was dented recently when I watched that the only way was by a heart transplant... time to search google... whew). Anyways, Karan Johar took advantage of a very un-questioning audience and created a box-office hit on the same lines.
While these movies don't come with any statutory warning they do present us with a list of match the followings like: smoking - lung cancer, sharaab - blood cancer, too much dancing - a heart attack ;)
(The list can go on and you are most welcome to add some more!)
